Display - LG Philips to Produce Large OLED Panels
October 20, 2004
LG.Philips LCD announced this week that it has developed the world's largest active matrix OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) panel. The 20.1-inch, 3-million-pixel display panels are the largest to be made from a single sheet of motherglass. A spokesperson for the Dutch-Korean joint venture claimed that the new OLED would offer more lifelike images and a broader range of light and dark contrasts. The panels will be used in applications produced by LG Electronics.

In 2003, Sony created a 24.2-inch OLED, although Sony's version was made by joining four displays together. Other Korean makers have made their presence known in the OLED market this year. In May, Samsung SDI developed a 17-inch OLED with a resolution of 5.8 million pixels. Samsung Electronics also announced in August that it was planning to enter the OLED market.
